Rober Caddick on SEN podcast said, “It’s a multi-toned pitch. The classic saying about pitches is, ‘Oh, it’s the same for everyone.”

“When the Gabba pitch too much grass was left on it, people were saying, ‘Yes, it was not a great wicket, but it was the same everyone. But you can’t say that about this pitch, Australia has six left-handers in their top eight, so if you start multi-preparing parts of the deck that’s straight-up pitch doctoring, it’s poor.” He added.

Former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie told SEN WA Breakfast, “I think the Indian curators are looking at a way for India to have an advantage. They potentially think spin will play a huge role and that the best chance to beat Australia will be to play to their strength.”

Another Aussie expert and former cricketer, Simon O’Donnell said ICC should intervene,”The ICC should step in and do something about it, if they think it’s not right.”

“If they think the pitch is not right, there’ll be an ICC referee at the game and the ICC will be watching this game. But there’s so many when it comes to India, we have all of these discussions, and nothing seems to happen,” He further added.

Both India and Australia know the importance of pitch in the 4 match Border Gavaskar Trophy which will be played from 9 February.

The first match will be played in the VCA Stadium, Nagpur, and as per reports, Rahul Dravid & Rohit Sharma have asked curators of all four venues to create a ‘Good Test Cricket’ pitch, and not just rank turners.

According to sources who spoke with TOI, curators at the four venues have been ordered to create pitches that will guarantee “good Test cricket” for the entire five days.

It is being said that this decision has been taken because the Indian batters have now themselves become vulnerable against the spin.

IND vs AUS 1st Test: Who Should Open for India? 3 Best Opening Combinations Involving Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul that India Can Try

Best Opening Combinations for India vs Australia 1st Test

1- Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill

The duo of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as openers in the recent ODI series against New Zealand has worked the wonders for Indian team. However, Test cricket is a completely different ball game. Even then India should stick with the opening combination of Rohit and Gill as both of them have performed well for India in the Test cricket in last couple of years or so. Shubman Gill was one of the huge factors in India’s win in the last Border Gavaskar Trophy and his recent form warrants that he should open with Rohit Sharma in the 1st Test against Australia at Nagpur.

2- Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul

KL Rahul has been appointed as the vice captain of India for the Test series against Australia. He is surely going to be in India’s playing XI. Rohit and Rahul have been phenomenal at the top for India in India in Test cricket. The duo is most suited to bat together at the top. India will be tempted to play Rohit and Rahul at the top and try to adjust Shubman Gill in the middle order in the 1st Test against Australia.

3- Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan

This opening combination can be a bold choice in the 1st Test against Australia. The Kangaroos won’t be expecting Kishan to open with Rohit in the 1st Test. India can use Kishan as a dasher against the new ball in the upcoming Tests. He can help India score a few handy runs at the top. Even though not ideal, this opening combination should not be written off.
