Sanjay Manjrekar reveals Virat Kohli’s biggest challenge in the Tests

As Virat Kohli continues to dominate ODI cricket, many experts and fans have compared him to Sachin Tendulkar. While some believe the comparison is unfair due to the different eras they played in, Kohli is quickly catching up to Tendulkar in the number of ODI centuries scored.

Kohli recently scored his 45th ODI century, only 5 behind Tendulkar’s record of 49 in this format. However, former India teammate Sanjay Manjrekar believes that breaking Tendulkar’s record of 51 Test centuries will be Kohli’s true and toughest challenge.

“Virat Kohli is an all-time great in ODIs and I am not saying that he is not good in Tests but his real challenge would be to break Sachin’s record of 51 Test hundreds. I hope he keeps his hunger alive and surpasses that record too,” said Manjrekar.

He currently has 27 Test centuries to his name. India’s next Test series against Australia offers an opportunity for him to score a couple of tons against his favorite rivals, and potentially inch closer to Tendulkar’s record.

Australia has included four spinners including Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy, Ashton Agar and Mitchell Swepson. The Indian pitches are known to be rank turners, and Australia has prepared its squad accordingly. Todd Murphy is an uncapped Australian spinner, while Lyon, Agar and Swepson have already played against India.

Pat Cummins will be the captain for the Test series against India, while Steve Smith is tasked with Vice Captaincy of the team.

Lance Morris, the uncapped Australian pacer, has been included as a backup in the squad. It is also reported that Mitchell Starc has not recovered from his finger tendon injury that he suffered in Sydney during the last Test against South Africa. Starc won’t be available for the first Test match against India, but he is retained in the squad.

Usman Khawaja and David Warner are two first-choice openers, while Marcus Harris has missed out. Warner has recently said that he will retire in one year from international cricket, and this could be his last Test series against India.

Cricket Australia has only gone with Alex Carey as the wicketkeeper for the Test series against India. If Carey suffers an injury, then Peter Handscomb will be the only one who could replace him in the matches.

However, Latham was not as good as Blundell behind the wickets. But New Zealand did not want to let go of Latham as the batter, which made Kiwis play both of them in Test cricket together.

  • 5 Players who can replace Rohit Sharma as test captain of the Indian Cricket Team

5 Players who can replace Rohit Sharma as test captain of the Indian Cricket Team

Rohit Sharma has been a successful captain for the Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League, leading the team to victory 5 times. He has also won several bilateral series as a captain for Indian team in which Virat Kohli was given rest. One major tournament was Asia Cup 2018 which they won comfortably. However, Rohit has not yet had the opportunity to captain the Indian team in Test cricket properly, due to his unavailability or injuries. If the Indian cricket board were to consider a change in captaincy for the Test team, here are five players who could potentially replace Rohit Sharma as captain.

    1.Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin is currently the best all-rounder in world cricket at this moment. He has a strong personality and is known for his calm and intelligent leadership style. This helped him lead the Punjab Kings in IPL 2020. In the recently concluded test series against Bangladesh, Ashwin was the only player who thrived under pressure. His fans on social media demanded Ashwin to get a better leadership role. Ravichandran Ashwin’s experience as a captain and his strong leadership skills make him a suitable candidate to captain Indian Test team.

    2. Ajinkya Rahane

Rahane has often been mentioned as a potential successor to Kohli as Test captain. He has a calm and composed personality and is known for his strategic thinking on the field. He is one of the best slip fielders in world cricket. Rahane has also had success as a captain, leading the Indian team to a famous victory in one of the best Test Series against Australia in 2021. He was dropped by the management because of his poor form. So far, he has captained the Indian Team in 6 matches and is yet to lose any match.

    3. Cheteshwar Pujara

Pujara is one of the most experienced players in the Indian Test team and is known for his calm and composed demeanor. He has previously captained the India A team and has been praised for his leadership skills. Pujara’s ability to lead by example with his batting and his ability to stay calm under pressure make him a strong candidate for Indian Test captaincy.

    4. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant is a young and dynamic player who has shown leadership potential in the past. He has captained the Indian team in a few T20Is and has shown the ability to take charge of the team in difficult situations. Also, he is the skipper of Delhi Capitals in the IPL and has achieved so much in such a short time. Pant’s aggressive captaincy style and his ability to lead from the front with his batting make him a strong candidate for Test captaincy.

    5. Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah is an experienced player who has been a part of the Indian team for a long time. Previously, he led the team in the historic 5th match of the India vs England Test Series which unfortunately India lost. Bumrah’s calm and aggressive personality and his ability to lead the team with his bowling make him a potential candidate for the Test captaincy.

While Rohit Sharma has had success as a captain in limited-overs formats, it remains to be seen if he will get the opportunity to captain the Indian Test team in the future. If the Indian cricket board does decide to make a change in captaincy for the Test team, the above-mentioned players could be strong contenders for the role.

David Warner Scores 200 in the 100th Test Match- Only the 2nd Batter After Joe Root to Achieve the Milestone

David Warner scored 200* in his 100th Test match and the second Test match of the AUS vs SA Test Series. He became only the second batter after Joe Root to achieve this milestone. David Warner has helped Australia gain a massive lead on the South African team. He is currently unbeaten after a double-century but was called back into the dressing room due to suffering from a medical issue.

David Warner has smashed 16 fours and 2 sixes in his double hundred. He achieved the milestone by smashing Ngidi for a four. The left-handed opening batter celebrated by getting down onto his knees and pumping his fists in absolute delight. He removed his helmet to acknowledge the claps and praises of the crowd and his teammate.

Australia has already gained a lead in excess of 140 runs on Proteas on the second day of the Test match itself. With his massive unbeaten 200, Warner has already almost ensured a win for the Kangaroos in the 2nd Test match. If Australia goes on to win this match, they will also win the series, as they have already defeated South Africa in the first Test of the three-match series.

Warner answered his critics in style by scoring his third double-hundred in Test matches. He left the field due to a medical issue after reaching the landmark of 200 runs. Cameron Green replaced him in the middle. It does not seem likely that David Warner will bat again in this inning.
