  • Watch: The Epic Funny Mix-Up between Babar Azam and Imam-ul-haq that led to a run-out

In the second ODI between Pakistan and West Indies, Pakistani batters Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq were involved in an epic funny run-out. The run-out will remind you of past funny instances of Pakistani players.

Babar Azam joined Imam-ul-Haq in the middle when the opening partnership for Pakistan was broken at a meagre score of 25. The duo of Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam did an excellent job before the hilarious run-out took place.

Together they scored 120 runs in just 21.3 overs before Imam-ul-haw found himself stranded in the middle. Imam-ul-Haq was sent back to the pavilion after the unfortunate run-out due to the negligence of Babar Azam.

The incident occurred in an over of Akeal Hosein. Imam-ul-Haq gently played the ball straight to mid-wicket, where the West Indian skipper Nicholas Pooran was raring to have a go at stumps.

Imam-ul-Haq thought there was a single, and he quickly ran to ultimately find out that Babar Azam had never left his crease. The right-hander was watching the ball all along while Imam was gunning to get off strike.

Imam did get off the strike but for permanently during the match. Seeing that Babar had not left his crease, Imam tried to run back to the keeper’s end. However, it was already too late as Pooran had collected the ball quickly to send it to the keeper.

Imam was clearly too disappointed with the way he was dismissed. He swung his bat angrily in the air after he was run out. Imam scored 72 off 72 before his departure. It was his sixth consecutive score of fifty-plus in One Day Internationals.

    Here’sĀ  the funny video of Imam-ul-Haq run-out:

Mathew Revis was the bowler for Yorkshire in the 12th over of the inning when Livingstone decided to go big. He picked the bones out of the slot delivery which was bowled around at the 5th stump by Revis.

The monstrous hit over the cow corner went outside the stadium and made commentators and viewers in the stadium believe that he has already shattered his record from IPL. They were right, as it was pointed out later on that the ball travelled 128m before landing on the earth’s surface.

However, Liam Livingstone did not last long on the crease and departed after contributing only 23 runs. He was dismissed in the 14th over of the inning. Lancashire could not win the game but successfully managed to end it in a tie. Both Lancashire and Yorkshire gained one point each in the Vitality Blast.

Gleeson bowled the last over for Yorkshire to defend 13 runs, but Lancashire managed to collect 12 runs to force the tie. The match was filled with drama and excitement.

  • Suresh Raina: Dil Ki Kuch Batein on The Ranveer Show

Suresh Raina, aka Chinna Thala and Mr IPL, had a heart to heart talk with Ranveer Allahbadia on The Ranveer Show Podcast.

Raina revealed many interesting unknown and unheard facts about his life candidly with Ranveer on the podcast. The whole conservation seems like a talk between two friends reminiscing about things from the past.

The video began with a few clips of Raina’s frank response to Ranveer’s questions. Then Ranveer talked to the viewers about how he learned a lot about life from the cricketing world before sharing the podcast.

Here’s what transpired in The Ranveer Show with Raina:

Initially, Ranveer stated that this wouldn’t be like an interview, and he wanted to hear the answers straight from Raina’s heart. Those who watch The Ranveer Show might already know that Ranveer’s podcast is filled with fun elements and emotional bits, and Raina also pointed out the same.

What all did Ranveer ask Raina in the podcast?

Ranveer: What was the happiest and most difficult phase of your cricketing career?

Raina: I did not know if I would get to represent India at the international level. A cricketer had to score many runs in domestic cricket to be considered a part of the Indian national setup. For doing better in domestic cricket, aspiring young guys used to take coaching worth around ₹10,000 per month. However, my father used to earn only that much, so it was not a feasible option for me. I also kept a tab on my studies and completed my graduation from Guru Gobind Sports College in Lucknow.Ā

(Ranveer discusses his first memory of Raina. He saw Raina for the first time on the Star network while being interviewed as a young domestic cricketer.)

Ranveer: Do you remember why you got emotional in your first interview?

Raina: They were interviewing many young prospects from all over India. Upon seeing those young cricketers telling their dreams and hopes, I got emotional about my journey as an aspiring cricketer.Ā

Ranveer: What has changed with Suresh Raina since then?

Raina: Nothing much. Still the same. I have gotten a bit mature and tried to be a good father and family man. I still have a lot left to achieve as a person.

(Clips of Brett Lee and Glenn Mcgrath on The Ranveer show are shown, and Ranveer says that he is going to ask a similar question that he asked the two of them)

Ranveer: How the meaning of aggression changes for a cricketer with his progress? Do cricketers become calmer with age, or does the aggression remain the same?

Raina: Of course, the on-field aggression changes, but it does not mean a player’s intensity dies down. When you start as a cricketer, you have a lot of built-up aggression that you need to the layout. For me, I used that as a driving force and worked harder for pursuing my dreams. As time passed, my responsibilities increased since I became a father. I try to set an example through my play for my kids. So yeah, aggression changes over time, but that will to do good for the team should remain the same.

Ranveer: What do you think is more important, luck or hard work and focus?

Raina: For me, luck is a significant factor. Everyone works hard and achieves the focus, but one needs to have the luck to get selected to play for India. Everybody wants to be the next Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli, but only the lucky ones make it that big. I was also blessed with luck cause I was one of those batters who went for the big shots from ball one. So, I needed that fortune to survive in the middle. I also had many injuries, but I was lucky that my family supported me in those tough times.

Ranveer: What are your learning from life? Is there something you want to share?

Raina: I have learned that there is nothing permanent in life. Anything can happen anytime, so you have to cherish what you have and live the way you want. For instance, in the pandemic, many things changed. I lost my father, so there is always uncertainty in life. That’s what I have learned from life.

Ranveer: How do fame and money change a person, especially a cricketer?Ā

Raina: I don’t know. My father used to handle all the financial aspects of my life.

Ranveer: No, not just you particularly. What have you observed about money and fame’s effect on cricketers?

Raina: There is an automatic change in life. With money, you save a lot of time, and you have to find ways to utilise that time. People think that he is a cricketer; he easily gets a lot of money, but they don’t know the hard work behind it. Nowadays, it has become so easy to criticise someone without even knowing anything on social media.

Ranveer: Honestly, I feel pretty intense talking to you.

Raina: I guess it’s a compliment for me (laughs). I like your way of conducting the podcast. It feels more like sitting with a friend and talking casually about stuff and life.

Ranveer: I feel very nice talking to you. I feel like I have achieved something if I am able to sit here and talk with you. However, I still feel I haven’t still broken the ice with you. Well, moving on, what does a player discuss with his coach and what happens in the dressing room?Ā

Raina: The coach’s work is to coach you. He will give you advice, but in the end, you are the one who is going to have to implement the gameplay.Ā

Ranveer: How do you work on mental strength?

Raina: I am a desi fellow. I have seen a lot in my cricketing journey as a player hailing from UP. I already had the mental strength, to begin with.

Ranveer: I remember your series against Hongkong. It’s where you clicked as a batter. So how does that happen?

Raina: Actually, it was the Asia cup in Pakistan, and I was batting well. We just won the T20 World Cup, and I performed well in IPL. So, I had the form; to begin with, it was just about the implementation. I scored a few hundred and made my debut. We defeated Sri Lanka, and the whole team was united to win the next World Cup for Sachin paaji. That team was built different, everyone had unique skills, and our roles were clear.

Ranveer: Was that the favourite phase of your career?

Raina: Yeah, it was very nice. We won the World Cup, and my career also took off. I had a nice stint in the following years for India. So, it was a good experience.

(A bit of discussion about money management and Raina sharing that he used to play basketball before cricket.)

    Ranveer: Does money distracts players?

Raina: It’s different for everyone. Some players want something lavish while some need to spend on basic facilities. Our team set-up was very cool. Sachin, Veeru paaji and Rahul Dravid used to talk about these things. Veeru paaji advised me to buy a house first before spending on unnecessary stuff like cars and all.

(Raina shares that he has written a book called Believe: What Life and Cricket Taught Me. He tells Ranveer that he has written about the struggles and everything else that a young aspiring cricketer has to face in his career.)

Ranveer: What used to go through your mind when you were in the zone in a game?

Raina: Nothing, just see the ball and hit it. Analysis and all that used to happen after the match about what could I have done better. But while playing, it was all about executing what I thought was the best.

(A discussion on the mental health of cricketers and, in particular, Marcus Trescothick and Glenn Maxwell ensues on The Ranveer Show.)

Raina: You need to talk about what’s going through your life, and your family and close friend will listen to you. It is the best way to counter mental stress.

  • 6 Instances When MS Dhoni Tricked The Opposition

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is surely one of the greatest finishers and captains India has ever produced in cricket history. MS Dhoni holds numerous records in his name. To begin with, he is the only captain to win all the major ICC trophies, including T20 World Cup 2007, World Cup 2011, and Champion Trophy 2013. Moreover, he led India to no.1 test rankings in the world.

MS Dhoni has been coined as the genius of the game. Whosoever has played with Dhoni doesn’t hesitate to declare MS Dhoni as the finest captain under whom they have played. Lighting quick stumping to unique field placements to pulling off some impossible victories defines the aura of MS Dhoni. His calm and composed behavior on the field and off the field doesn’t let a player feel nervous around him and brings out their A-game.

Why did we say MS Dhoni was the cleverest among all? Undoubtedly due to his captaincy skills but also for his small instances where he fooled or tricked the opposition and showed them who got the brains here.

Here are instances when MS Dhoni Tricked the Opposition-

    1) Geraint Jones England Wicket-Keeper

In his early cricketing days, MS Dhoni was playing an ODI against England and was on strike. MS Dhoni missed the ball hitting his pad and then Geraint Jones who was England’s wicket-keeper threw the ball onto the stumps but Dhoni was already in the crease. However, after this, MS Dhoni ran for a single and then observed no one was picking up the ball near the stumps and then quickly ran for another run. This is how Dhoni converted 0 runs into 2 runs.

    2) In an ODI match when Kieron Pollard tried to act smarter than Dhoni

India was playing an ODI match against West Indies and Dhoni was on the non-strike end with Virat Kohli on strike. Kohli had hit the ball on long on towards Kieron Pollard and then Pollard decided to throw a ball a little away from him to tempt Dhoni-Kohli for the second run. However, Dhoni showed him who the real boss is? They ran and completed the 2nd run successfully.

    3) Dhoni’s No look run out to Mushfiqur Rahman

Dhoni upgraded his wicket-keeping skills and showcased this against Bangladesh. Mushfiqur Rahim hit the ball towards 3rd man and was coming back for a second run. Mushfiqur Rahim was a bit lazy while running as he saw Dhoni standing away from stumps with his back to collect the ball. However, Dhoni outplayed him and collected the ball to throw it from between his legs to run out Mushfiqur Rahman. That was a no-look run out by Dhoni to astonish everyone.

    4) Is Dhoni the wicketkeeper or goalkeeper?

In an IPL match against Kings XI Punjab (Now Punjab Kings) and Dhoni was wicket-keeping for Rising Pune Super Giants. The batter played a late cut shot only to be blocked by Dhoni’s leg where he stretched his leg at almost 90 degrees. This save was more of a goal-keeper save rather than a wicket-keeper skill.

    5) Laxmi Shukla & Ishant run out in IPL

In a CSK vs KKR, when Laxmi Shukla and Ishant were on the crease in the final over and Dhoni was keeping the wickets. Laxmi Shukla missed the ball and Ishant immediately tried to steal a run, however, Laxmi said no and Dhoni threw the ball towards the non-striker end. However, Dhoni instructed the bowler not to take the bails off and waited for the time till Shukla was out of the crease and then chipped the bails off. This instance was a clever move to take a batter’s wicket.

    6) Deceiving Mitchell Marsh to run him out

India was playing against Australia when Mitchell Marsh had hit the ball towards cover which was chased by Umesh Yadav. Dhoni acted lazily and behaved as if there was a delay in the ball coming from the cover which made Mitchell Marsh run at a slow pace. But, Umesh Yadav had already released the ball and Dhoni successfully collected the ball to dismiss Mitchell Marsh with his clever moves. A pure laugh of joy was enjoyed by the spectators on the ground.

This instance depicts how comfortably MS Dhoni tricked the opposition in his international career. Tell us your favorite moment of Dhoni fooling the opposition with his clever moves.

  • Once Virat Kohli said to this ex-RCB player,” Yeh Bumrah Vumrah Kya Karenge”

One of India’s finest pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah made his IPL debut in 2015 with Mumbai Indians. An unorthodox fast bowler with a short run-up and bowling at 140+ speed constantly was the eye-catching feature of Bumrah. The fast bowler rose to success within a short period as his selection to the Indian team was at an eye blink process. He made his Indian national team debut in January 2016.

However, former Indian batter-wicketkeeper and ex-Royal Challengers Bangalore player, Parthiv Patel, discussed the behind story of Bumrah, before he achieved such heights. Since Parthiv Patel was the leader of the side Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy and Jasprit Bumrah used to play under him.

Parthiv Patel recalled the moment in 2014 when he asked Royal Challengers Bangalore captain ( Virat Kohli) to have a look at the young bowler full of determination and hard work for achieving success. However, Virat Kohli laughed it off saying, ” Chodd Na yrr Yeh Bumrah Vumrah kya krege” and then moved on from this conversation.

All the RCB fans just imagine the moment if Virat Kohli had then accepted this new bowler and picked him up in the squad. Then, probably RCB would not have suffered so many obstacles while defending the totals. It could have been their next big buy ever after Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

How Virat Kohli Backed Jasprit Bumrah?

Although, Jasprit Bumrah made his international debut under MS Dhoni, the fast bowler grew exceptionally well under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. Even, the fast bowler himself has admired the captain Virat Kohli. Jasprit Bumrah against West Indies in a test in 2019, revealed how Virat Kohli’s belief in his fast bowler gives him and other bowlers the self-belief to try out new things.

Virat Kohli also admires the fast bowler a lot and never stays behind to replicate the pacer’s bowling action either on the field or off-field. These moments are pure joy to every cricket fans eyes.

Nevertheless, Jasprit Bumrah went on to take over India’s pace attack. Moreover, he was recently named as the vice-captain of Indian test team against Sri Lanka. Bumrah’s figures are astonishing for a fast bowler. He has 123 test wickets merely in 29 tests and 67 wickets in T20 cricket in 57 matches.

Also, Bumrah is the fastest Indian to take 50 test wickets and a hattrick to his name which adds more glory to his reputation.
