Eoin Morgan to Retire, Know Who will Captain the England Cricket Team

The only 50-over World Cup winning captain from England, Eoin Morgan, is set to soon retire from the international cricket. Eoin Morgan has recently experienced quite a few failures with the bat, and as per the reports, he is suffering from too many injuries. Things are taking a toll on him, and the English captain may soon hang up his boots. This will mean England will have to go in with a new captain in the T20i World Cup scheduled in October 2022.

The left-handed batter has accomplished quite a few feats in his career. He has the most runs for an English white-ball captain in ODIs and T20i. Morgan has amassed 7,701 runs in 248 ODIs and 2,458 runs in 115 T20is in his career so far. England became a premium white-ball side under his captaincy and finally won the elusive title of World Cup in 2019.

Eoin Morgan also holds a remarkable record of hitting most sixes in an ODI knocks. He smashed 17 sixes in a game against Afghanistan. It was his fearless and attacking approach that changed the way how England cricket played the white ball format of the game. He has been regarded as perhaps the greatest English captain ever in the limited-over format for England.

Who will Captain England, When Eoin Morgan Retires?

A big question that needs to be answered that who will take up the reins of the England cricket team once Eoin Morgan hangs up his boots. Speculations are high that Jos Buttler, who has captained England in a few games and had been appointed as England’s vice-captain, will take the captaincy from Morgan on his retirement.

However, there are also chances for Moeen Ali or Jonny Bairstow to take up the English captaincy in white-ball format. Ben Stokes might have been an option if he was not captaining the Test side. England likes to keep two separate captains for Test cricket and the limited-overs format of the game. At the moment, we expect Jos Buttler to be England’s new captain.
