Pandya, who remained unbeaten and formed a match-winning partnership with the Player of the Match, Suryakumar Yadav, made some crucial calls for the team. He dropped Umran Malik, recognizing that the wicket would be better suited to spinners. Pandya’s intuition paid off as he brought in Yuzvendra Chahal in the powerplay overs, who bowled a maiden and claimed the wicket of the dangerous Finn Allen.
